The Crime League is a Toronto-based music label originally established in 2006 as an outlet for 'b-sides' of the electronic music project 'Displacer'. It has since gone on to become a tee shirt label & design agency, but not forgetting it's roots in music culture. Now, in 2013, it returns to give you a series of albums and EP's, spanning many musical genres that we love.

Check out our brand new releases below from Displacer, Rik M., Soothsayer, Chase Dobson, LPF12 & Pattern Behavior.

Chase Dobson is a Denver based musician who focuses foremost on texture and atmosphere. Utilizing acoustic instruments, synthesizers and an array of digital processes, his output is difficult to pigeonhole. One is equally as likely to hear serene looping ambient work as they are glacially paced post-metal or dubby minimal techno. Dobson's musical project "c.db.sn" has embraced this same philosophy of texture and atmosphere. While initially rooted in IDM, c.db.sn has branched out to encompass a number of genres while maintaining an aesthetic central to all of Dobson's material. Chase Dobson has released material on Tympanik Audio, Hymen Records, Crime League, Component Recordings and Denver's Plastic Sound Supply.

Pattern Behavior is an electronic duo based out of Providence, RI comprised of Raab Codec and Elizabeth Virosa. Raab Codec is known for his post-industrial percussive based electronica and is the label operator behind Component recordings. Elizabeth has a background visual, sound and performance art as while as an interest in creating homemade electronic instruments. Using a combination of analog synthesis and digital sound processing their sound can be described as moody electronics with elements of IDM, downtempo, and ambient. The Collapsar EP is a continuation of the ideas laid out on their debut release.
Their self titled EP was described as:
"an incredibly tripped-out and radiant musical framework where menacing if not doomy and tenebrous chordal drone hypnosis meets pulsating kinetic electronic moves... In short Pattern Behavior delivers a remarkable synthesis between various electronic sound explorations, discreetly dark ambient inflected moves (in the meditatively astral “December”) with lot of variations which culminates into a vastly immersive electronically orchestrated odyssey. An eclectic and multi-textured electronic music release which deliberately sounds as an imaginary soundtrack through furiously nightmare-ish, isolationist and beatific splendor. " -Igloomag.com

Cloud Roots is a young Ukrainian project by Leonid Zhdanov and Nataly Hrytsenko, intended to break stereotypes about contemporary electronic music. Cloud Roots' music mixes different genres and styles together, combining rich orchestral arrangements with electronic textures, extensive piano improvisations - with inventive rhythm section, gaining an expression of cinematic sound unusual for modern scene. The result of the alchemical musical experiments is rather unpredictable, but always interesting and highly amusing 'cause life is such a wonderful adventure.

Dead Voices On Air
Did Digger Do Jehovah
Is the 19th album by Mark Spybey’s project.
He has also released work under many names as a collaborator and was a part of Can guitarist Michael Karoli’s band, Sofortkontakt! He started life with Zoviet-France, before emigrating to Canada and joining the post Skinny Puppy band Download. Subsequently he returned to the UK to form Reformed Faction with other Zoviet-France alumni, specifically concentrating on his work with Robin Storey of Rapoon.
Did Digger Do Jehovah started life as a conversation with a work colleague Christopher Rowlands, who contributed acoustic guitar to the album, which Spybey processed. In recent years he has concentrated on working with other musicians, who often contribute small acoustic fragments of sound that he reworks. He cites the work he did with Simon Fisher Turner as a crucial turning point in his work, with the studio, specifically the act of editing assuming increasing importance. This differs to his earlier work, which was almost exclusively recorded live to tape, with Spybey multi-tracking first take improvisations.
He has always refused to interpret his music or add any commentary, save this: the listener is invited to make of it as they will. All attention is moved away from the ‘artist’ occupying a position that invokes any kind of reference at all. It is within this state of absence, that Spybey believes the listener can engage freely with music.
He is currently working with several labels, concentrating exclusively on creating physical products and continues to work with Reformed Faction and a number of other projects and people, all over the world.

Portland's Anklebiter is back with their sixth album, starting out softer and lush yet with signature IDM-styled edgy electronics on "Joey Gladstone" before introducing more hectic components. Soothing tracks like "Error Peak" use classical sounding elements like strings while fusing a modern edge on "Never Like This" and the droning wall of sound on "Cockshuttle". Emotionally heavy and captivating.

For more than a decade Robert Bittner has been reaching far and wide to explore the possibilities of sound under the name RENTIP. Producing since 1998, he has participated in several collaborative projects. One of these being the project 'Pre-optimal order', aka 'Poo'. In 2005 'Pre-optimal' order released their debut album 'Fluorescent', and since that time, has gone on to record a few EPs and participated on various compilations.
Daily Routines, is Robert's first complete solo album, and reflects what he's been working on for the past three years. At the compassionate age of 13, Mark could be found programming music via an analog monophonic Korg, an early Ensoniq sampler, and accompanied by an Atari computer. Together with his brother Matt and friend Dawn Lewis they worked under the title Wax Bean Orchard through out their high school years. Identifying with so many elements through out the decades of musical genres is what initially inspired Mark to write music. From the early electronic sounds of Detroit and Europe, Mark was influenced to compile his very own personality of sound. He also teamed up with his twin brother Matt to form a collaboration called Repair. In 2001, Repair got involved with Germany's Sub-Static Records and released their first collaboration "V-wreck". Repair's growing success has brought them to touring Europe and playing popular festivals such as Spain's "Obseravtori" and Montreal's "Mutek". Now, Mark brings us an ambient exploration, written on the famous Synclavier synthesisizer, utilizing all analog gear, to clear your anxiety into sedate relaxation.

For Michael Savelli, born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, electronic music was very apparent even in his life as a child, as he was routinely exposed to his parents' favourite albums from ABBA and Boney M. However, his true interest in music and more importantly, electronic music, were inherent later on in life in the late 80s and early 90s with Ministry's Twitch album and the electronic elements of the Jesus & Mary Chain's Automatic and Honey's Dead albums. He continued to search for and discover new styles and genres that also incorporated computers, drum machines, synthesizers and samplers. Curiosity would settle in everything from synth pop to hip-hop, industrial and dance, and those influences can still be found in his music today. Through normal progression, he then attended live shows and with each show, he found himself more intrigued by how the music was made and what equipment was used rather than the music itself.

So really, this compilation is for everyone… and kind of no one but myself. It's selfish but it's electronic music I love, in too many styles to go into here, and, because when it comes down to it, it's all electronic music to me without classification. We're all using the same machines to try to express ourselves in limitless ways, but we're all tied together by the groove. All of this is interconnected in my mind and so this is how I tried to create a playlist that flows. Might it be by sound or mood, you can be carried forward to listen to a song you might not have given a chance before, compartmentalized into a sub genre of a sub genre, and be surprised at how well some of this music fits together. It's in two parts, I think it's also important you take a rest or at least think about an intermission between each one. It's quite a journey, but I thought it all should live together on one longer compilation. I hope you'll also notice I'm trying to introduce some new electronic wizards on this compilation mixed in with some great professionals, who I think really deserve some attention. You'll be hearing more from them soon, so come back and see what else the Crime League is planning. Thanks go out to Tympanik Audio, Ant-Zen, Hymen Records and all the artists who inspired me to do this.
